Micromégas is sort of a travelogue, or an imaginary voyage. It is subtitled 'A philosophical story' which makes Voltaire’s aim clear. As with earlier writings by Voltaire, its tone is satirical. This time, however, the tale is from the perspective of a couple of aliens, although the narrator is from Earth. Micromégas is the main character and an inhabitant of a planet orbiting Sirius. The final chapter sees humans testing the philosophies of Aristotle, Descartes, and Locke against the travellers' wisdom. When the travellers hear the theory of Aquinas that the universe was made uniquely for mankind, they fall into an enormous fit of laughter.
